Altig Unstoppable
Along the North Sea German Rudi Altig used a very strong headwind with 60 km to go to breakaway from an elite field. Riding solo Altig extended his lead to over 4 minutes. He crossed the finish line 4'05” ahead of the chasers to gain the prestigious victory.
SPECIAL NOTE: Again this year a new average speed record was set at 41.228 km/h.
SPECIAL NOTE: After a 2 year stint Gentbrugge was replaced by Merelbeke, another suburb of Gent.
