Brunero Slips Away from Girardengo

March 28, 1922 the 15th edition of Milan-San Remo rolled out from Milan and headed for the plains of Lombardy. Sprinter contested village premes and the peloton arrived at the Passo Turchino together. An elite group of ten riders split the peloton. Giuseppe Belloni broke free to win the climb but the re-grouping of the breakaway on the descent kept the pack at 10.

An attack lead by Costante Girardengo and Giovanni Brunero split the pack again and the breakaway became 5 riders strong. On the outskirts of San Remo Brunero jumped off the front and soloed to the victory. Girardengo chased hard but finished 22 seconds behind.
