Jose Manuel Fuente (Spa)

Born: September 30, 1945, Limanes, Spain

Died: July 18, 1996

Professional: from 1970 to 1976

Jose Manuel Fuente was inspired by Federico Bahamontes' victory in the 1959 Toru de France to be dedicated to cycling. He was 3rd in the 1973 Tour de France behind Luis Ocana and Bernard Thevenet. In the Giro d'Italia, he won the Mountains Jerseys in 1971, 1972, 1973, and 1974. Jose Manuel Fuente died after a long struggle with kidney disease on July 18, 1996 at age 50.
