Alberic ‘Briek' Schotte (Bel)

Born: September 7, 1919, Kanegem, Belgium

Died: April 4, 2004

Professional: from 1940 to 1959

Briek Schotte was a great Belgian cyclist primarily known for his sprinting ability. He was not a strong climber and struggled with the time trials, but his finishing speed enabled him to excel in the one-day classics.

Schotte had a long and storied career. He was called “The Last of the Flanderians” for his aggressive and courageous style. In 1997 the City of Kanegem, Belgium dedicated a memorial in the village square to honor their Flanderian Hero .
