  • September 11 (9/11) - 19 terrorists from the Islamist extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial aircraft in a coordinated terrorist attack against the United States. The attacks resulted in over 3,000 fatalities from 93 different countries.
  • October 14 - Michael Schumacher clinched his fourth FIA Formula One World Championship with a record-breaking margin of 58 points. His exceptional performance this season demonstrated his unparalleled skill and Ferrari's engineering prowess.
  • December 22 - “Shoe bomber” Richard Reid, a British citizen and al Qaeda member, attempts to detonate bombs on a Paris to Miami flight.
  • June 11 - The United States executes Timothy McVeigh for bombing a federal building in Oklahoma City.
  • November 10 - China is admitted to the World Trade Organization.

Notable Deaths -

Dale Earnhardt, (1974-2001) a legendary NASCAR driver tragically died from injuries sustained during a catastrophic crash in the final lap of the Daytona 500.

Carroll O'Connor (Archie Bunker), (1924-2001) an iconic American actor best known for his groundbreaking role as Archie Bunker in the influential sitcom 'All in the Family'
