Wouter Weylandt (Bel) (1984-2011) Belgian professional cyclist, he crashed during the 3rd stage of the Giro d'Italia. He died of his injuries at the age of 27.
Duke Snider (1926-2011) American Baseball Hall of Fame outfielder for the Brooklyn / LA Dodgers, achieved 8 MLB All Star selections and appeared in the World Series 1955, 59. He died at 84.
Frank Buckles (1901-2011) the last surviving American World War I veteran.
Muammar Gaddafi (1942-2011) Libyan revolutionary, political theorist and authoritarian dictator, was beaten to death in captivity by a Misratan militia. He died at 69.
