Buysse's Dominating Win… Again!
The 25th edition of the Tour of Flanders was held May 4, 1941.
The wartime road conditions around Flanders caused the race in 1941 to be remembered for its shorter distance.
SPECIAL NOTE: Damage to the roads caused by the war made the racing conditions even tougher. This edition was the only race in its history held on a course of less than 200 km.
Jules Lowie (Mercier) arrived at the top of the Edelareberg (160 km / 198 km), solo with a 30-second lead on a 6-rider chase group. They reconnected with the leader in the closing kms.
Achiel Buysse (Dilecta) drove the pace of a 7-rider breakaway, with Jules Lowie (Mercier), Maurice Clautier (Alcyon), Gustaaf Van Overloop (Individual), Odiel Van den Meerschaut (Individual), Albert Beinaert (Individual), and Eugeen Kiewit (Individual). Defending Ronde champion Achiel Buysse controlled the final straight in Wetteren and won the sprint for his second straight Tour of Flanders victory.
