Lapize Times Three

Two-time defending champion Octave Lapize (Fra) came to Paris-Roubaix with great ambitions. An unprecedented 3rd consecutive victory was on the line. The favorites set a slow pace and were content to wait until the later stages of the race to attack.

Through the mining region Lapize and Cyrille Van Hauwaert (Bel) managed to pull away from the lead group. Off the Doullens Hill launching pad the duo set up a rematch of the previous year's 2-up sprint finish.

Bad luck came to Van Hauwaert when his rear tire punctured several kilometers from the velodrome. Octave Lapize rolled away to easily claim his record setting 3rd consecutive P-R victory.
