  • September 16 - Cycling land speed record broken for men and women by Denise Mueller-Korenek rode a bicycle 183.932 mph (296.010 km/h) at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah.

Notable Deaths -

Roger Bannister (1929-2018) English athlete who was the first to run a sub 4-minute mile (3:59.4 at Iffley Road Track, Oxford 1954). He died of Parkinson's disease at 88.

Billy Graham (1918-2018) American Baptist evangelist described as 1 of the 20th century's most influential Christian leaders. He died at 99.

Stephen Hawking (1942-2018) English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author (Black Holes & Baby Universes), died at 76.

Aretha Franklin (1942-2018) American singer/songwriter known as "The Queen of Soul", her songs included "Respect", "Think", and "Chain of Fools", died of pancreatic cancer at 76.

George H. W. Bush (1924-2018) 41st US President (1989-93) and 43rd US Vice President (1981-89), died at 94.
