  • April 29 - Three tornadoes hit southeast of Dallas, Texas, killing five.

  • May 6 - 84 abducted schoolgirls were released in exchange for Boko Haram suspects in Nigeria.

  • May 9 - US President Donald Trump dismissed FBI Director James Comey, because of (but not limited to) his mishandling of theinvestigations of “The Hillary Clinton email controversy” (2016) and “The Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections” (2017).

  • May 21 - After 146 years Barnum & Bailey Circus performed for the last time at the Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY (Long Island).

  • June 16 - Amazon announced it was buying Whole Foods for $13.7 billion.

  • July 2 - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie caused an uproar by having “a day at the beach” during his state government's shutdown of the beaches.

  • July 7 - Tesla Motors produced its first mass-market car, the Model 3

  • September 13 - International Olympic Committee announced that Paris (2024) and Los Angeles (2028) will host the Olympic games.

  • October 14 - film producer Harvey Weinstein was expelled by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences after historical revelations of his sexual harassment and rape.

  • October 24 - A “Dog doping” scandal was confirmed by officials of Iditarod, Alaskan’s dog sled race after numerous dogs test positive for a banned substance.

  • November 16 - US senator Al Franken was accused of groping and forcibly kissing a woman.

  • November 27 - Great Britain's Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle announce their engagement.

  • November 29 - American TV news host Matt Lauer is fired from NBC's "Today" show after an allegation of sexual misconduct.

Notable Deaths -

* Tour de France Champion: Roger Walkowiak (Fra) (1927-2017) French road bicycle racer who won the 1956 Tour de France. He was a professional rider from 1950 until 1960. He died at the age of 89.

* Vuelta a Espana Champion / Tour de France Champion: Roger Pingeon (Fra) (1940-2017) He raced as a professional from 1964 to 1974. Pingeon won two Grand Tours: the 1967 Tour de France and the 1969 Vuelta a Espana. He died at 76.

* Giro d'Italia Champion: Michele Scarponi (Ita) (1979-2017) Italian racing champion who rode professionally from 2002 until his death in 2017. Scarponi won the 2011 Giro d'Italia. He was killed while on a training ride when he was struck at the via Schiavoni intersection by an Iveco Daily van driven. He died at the age of 37.

Mary Tyler Moore (1936-2017) American Emmy Award-winning actress ("Laura" in The Dick Van Dyke Show; “Mary” in The Mary Tyler Moore Show; “Beth Jarrett” in Ordinary People), died at 80.

Chuck Berry (1926-2017) American rock n' roll guitarist and singer-songwriter ("Roll Over Beethoven", "Sweet Little Sixteen"), died at 90.

Brian Oldfield (1945-2017) American track & field athlete and personality of the 1970s and early 1980s. An outstanding shot putter, Oldfield was credited with making the “rotational technique” (Oldfield spin) popular. He set the indoor and outdoor world records in the sport many times. He died at 71.
