L-B-L 1946 on War Torn Roads
The 32nd edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liege was held on May 5, 1946.
The war-torn roads of the L-B-L racecourse began to improve with famous “Wallonne climbs” (with multiple short, steep climbs), returning to the parcours of the race. The race returned to its pre-war race route.
Prosper Depredomme (Dilecta) drove the pace into Liege with Albert Hendrickx (Mercier), Triphon Verstraeten (Groene), Joseph Somers (Rochet), and Emile Carrara (Fra-Alcyon) setting up for the final sprint.
Flying down the finish straight Depredomme launched the winning move and crossed the line first in a very tight finish. He won the L-B-L victory in 1946.
Albert Hendrickx (Bel) finished in second place just ahead of Verstraeten (Bel).
