Depoorter Repeats L-B-L Victory
The 33rd edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liege was held on April 20, 1947.
The prestige of Liege-Bastogne-Liege continued to grow in 1947. A record 168 elite riders came to the start line in Liege.
1943 L-B-L winner Richard Depoorter (Garin) rode away from very talented neo-pro Raymond Impanis (Alcyon) in the final km to earn the 1947 L-B-L victory.
SAD SPECIAL NOTE: During the Tour de Suisse 1948, Richard Depoorter died pre-maturely at age 33 after he crashed in an unlit tunnel descending the Susten Pass. One of the race’s ‘follow cars’ did not see the fallen rider and hit Depoorter. He died onsite from his injuries.
