  • May 2 - Floyd Mayweather Jr. beat Manny Pacquiao on points in 12 rounds in world welterweight unification fight. The event shatters all financial records for a boxing match.

  • July - Iran Nuclear Deal: the P5+1 countries (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) reached a historic agreement with Iran to limit its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions. This deal was seen as a significant diplomatic achievement. (?)

  • July 18 - PayPal was spun off from eBay as a separate publicly traded company on the NASDAQ.

  • September 3 - Kentucky clerk in Rowan County was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

  • September 6 - German police confirm more than 13,000 refugees have arrived in Southern Germany in last 2 days fleeing conflicts in Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.

  • September 22 - Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives in Seattle to start his first state visit to the US.

  • October 3 - US airstrike hits “Doctors Without Borders” hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan, killing 19.

  • October 7 - US President Barack Obama apologized to “Doctors Without Borders” for the bombing of their hospital in Kunduz.

  • November 9 – A World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) commission report recommended that the Russian Federation be banned from athletics competitions for running a "state-supported" doping program.

Notable Deaths -

* World Road Race Champion: Claude Criquielion (Bel) (1957-2015) a Belgian professional road bicycle racer, who raced between 1979 and 1990. Criquielion became the 1984 World Road Race Champion in Barcelona, Spain on a grueling course. He had five top ten finishes in the Tour de France.

Ernie Banks (1931-2015) American Baseball HOF shortstop, 1st baseman (14 x MLB All Star; NL MVP 1958, 59; Chicago Cubs), died of a heart attack at 83.

B.B. King (1925-2015) American blues guitarist and singer (“The Thrill is Gone”), died at 89.

Yogi Berra (1925-2015) American Baseball HOF catcher, coach and manager with the NY Yankees (18 x MLB All-Star; 13 x World Series; AL MVP 1951, 54, 55). He was a Purple Heart recipient. He died at 90.
