A Career Day for Dervaes
The 13th edition of the Tour of Flanders was held March 17, 1929.
World champion Automoto’s Georges Ronsse (Bel) came to the Flanders as the odds-on favorite for victory in 1929.
Powerful Belgian Ronsse (Automoto) and Joseph Dervaes (Genial-Lucifer) escaped from the peloton and gained a significant lead.
When the race arrived on the finishing streets of Wetteren, Ronsse suffered a puncture and lost contact with his breakaway companion.
The now solo Joseph Dervaes rode across the finish line and claimed a grand victory. This win marked the best result of Dervaes' career.
